Treasure Trails South West Scotland – There are many hidden gems in South West Scotland – from mountain tops to seaside, open estuaries, rivers and cliffs, to rolling hillsides, waterfalls and beaches. There’s The Rhins of Galloway Cycling Trail, The Portpatrick treasure trail and the Stranraer treasure trail to choose from. Autumn is a great time to come and see what an incredible place Galloway is to view the night sky and see amazing natural sights such as meteor showers and (if you are very lucky) the northern lights. Visit the Dark Sky Park in the Galloway Forest.
Scottish Snowdrop Festival – taking place at over 50 gardens in Scotland with over 300 types of snowdrop flower. They can grow in a wide range of locations and can be seen at various beautiful gardens in Dumfries and Galloway from February 2012.
Dumfries and Galloway Wildlife festival 31st March – 15th April 2012 – more than 80 events over two weeks.
Meet the Lambs – 31st March to 15th April at Cream’o Galloway. 12 noon and 2pm. Meet the newborn Lambs.
Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival 25th May – 04 June 2012. The Festival offers a wide range of events: music, dance, theatre, literary, children’s events, plus the visual arts and films. Events take place in a range of venues throughout the region, from large to small, formal to informal, urban to rural.
Spring Fling 2nd – 5th June 2012. Open studios event, meets the artists and makers whose doors are open to the public during this event.
Day 21 The Olympic torch relay 8th June 2012 - On day 21, the torch will begin at Stranraer and will finish with an evening celebration in Glasgow. The torch will visit Cairnryan, Ballantrae, Girvan, Turnberry, Maidens, Kirkoswald, Maybole, Alloway, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Kilmaurs, Stewarton, Dunlop, Barrmill, Beith, Lochwinnoch, Kilmacolm, Port Glasgow, Rutherglen, Glasgow and Giffnock along the way.
